Dear Friend,
As the elected representative for House District 28, I have the honor and responsibility of fighting for the values we hold dear in our community. In the past few years, I’ve worked tirelessly to pass legislation that improves our quality of life, supports working families, and makes New Mexico a better place for all. From passing the Prescription Drug Price Transparency Act to lower prescription drug prices, to advocating for secure firearm storage to slow the number one cause of children’s deaths, my focus has always been safeguarding the well-being of our citizens, with a special emphasis on protecting children, bolstering public safety, and ensuring access to reproductive healthcare – including IVF.
A Focus on Healthcare Access
Healthcare is a fundamental right, and I’ve consistently worked to improve access and affordability for New Mexicans. One of my key priorities has been holding insurance and pharmaceutical companies accountable. That is what I crafted and passed the Prescription Drug Price Transparency Act to make drug prices public in New Mexico. Now drug makers and distributors are required to turn in data every year to the state showing the costs of their most expensive drugs, profits from those products and how much patients ultimately pay out of pocket. I am proud to note that every single member of the House and Senate voted for this common sense legislation.
Looking Ahead: Protecting IVF and Reproductive Rights
As we move toward the next legislative session, I am deeply committed to introducing new laws that safeguards the right of New Mexican families to pursue in vitro fertilization (IVF). Reproductive freedom is not just about the right to choose whether or when to have children, but also about the right to access medical treatments that allow families to grow. In the wake of recent federal and state-level attacks on reproductive rights, it is imperative that we act to protect IVF and ensure that hopeful parents have the legal backing they need to access these life-changing services.
IVF is a medical miracle for many families facing infertility. Unfortunately, it has become a target of political attacks that are part of a broader effort to curtail reproductive rights. My upcoming legislation will create clear protections for the use of IVF in New Mexico, ensuring that families can pursue these treatments without fear of legal interference or additional burdensome regulations. Every family’s path to parenthood is unique, and government overreach has no place in those deeply personal decisions. New Mexicans deserve the freedom to choose the family-building options that work best for them.
A Legacy of Protecting Children
One of the legislative achievements I’m most proud of is Bennie’s Law, named in honor of a young Albuquerque boy who tragically lost his life in a school shooting with an unsecured firearm. Bennie’s Law updates the criminal code so that parents can be charged if an unsecured firearm is accessed by a minor who commits a crime with it. In December of last year the law garnered national attention and was honored by Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House. It’s crucial that we balance the right to bear arms with the responsibility to keep our communities safe. Bennie’s Law helps ensure that guns are stored safely, preventing tragic accidents, and keeping our kids safer from the leading cause of death for children and teens – firearms.
A Call to Action
As I continue to serve the people of House District 28, my priority remains clear: I will always fight for the safety, health, and rights of our community. From protecting children with Bennie’s Law, to advocating for affordable healthcare and reproductive rights, my legislative record demonstrates my unwavering commitment to these values. I am asking for your vote in the upcoming election so that we can continue this important work together. With your help, we will protect IVF, and ensure that New Mexico remains a place where every family has the opportunity to thrive.
Let’s keep moving forward, together.
