As the elected representative for House District 28, I have the honor and responsibility of fighting for the values we hold dear in our community. In the past few years, I’ve worked tirelessly to pass legislation that improves our quality of life, supports working families, and makes New Mexico a better place for all.
Pamela Herndon has been fighting on the front lines against the out of control crime in Albuquerque. She is fighting for our safety every day as a legislator. First she put $50 million in her crime package to establish a law enforcement officer recruitment fund. In the same omnibus crime package, progress was made by:
Pamelya Herndon is fed up with crime in Albuquerque and she won't give up until New Mexico is safer for everyone. To ensure Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office is able to operate at full capacity she funded the department with $2,362,500 to add additional officers.
When it comes to crime in Albuquerque, we’re all fed up. We should be able to live our lives without fear of falling victim to theft, assault, or worse, and Pamelya Herndon is making progress for us.
Pamelya voted to create the New Mexico Housing Trust Fund, which provides $25 million in ongoing funding to build affordable housing for low-and-moderate-income New Mexicans.
Pamela Herndon supports the second amendment and does not oppose gun ownership. She will defend the right for individuals to protect themselves and their family, while balancing the responsibility that comes with gun ownership. To wit, Pamelya introduced and passed Bennie's Bill named after the 13-year-old Washington Middle School child murdered on the playground by a classmate with his father's unsecured gun. She strongly supports CAP (child access prevention) legislation and is proud to have updated the criminal code to impose penalties upon adults who fail to safely secure firearms out of the reach of minors that commit criminal acts.
Senate Bill 12, sponsored by Senators Pinto, Lopez, and Rep. Pamelya Herndon, created a Missing Persons Specialist position in the Office of the Attorney General. Signed into law in 2022 this bill is dedicated to assisting with the investigation and prosecution of missing persons cases involving Indigenous persons believed to be victims pursuant to the Missing Persons Information and Reporting Act.
Helping strengthen the economy and fight inflation that impacts families are among Pamelya Herndon’s highest priorities. Pamelya has taken action to better the economy by:
One of Pamelya's key priorities has been holding insurance and pharmaceutical companies accountable. That is what she crafted and passed the Prescription Drug Price Transparency Act to make drug prices public in New Mexico. Now drug makers and distributors are required to turn in data every year to the state showing the costs of their most expensive drugs, profits from those products and how much patients ultimately pay out of pocket. It is worth noting that every single member of the House and Senate voted for this common sense legislation.
Pamelya supports reforming the tax code that levels the playing field so every New Mexican can thrive, not just the wealthy. She voted for laws to lift families out of poverty, stimulate spending in local economies, and protect New Mexico's home-grown businesses and investments.
In addition she will repeal tax cuts that have not produced additional jobs or economic stability, provide incentives to companies working on renewable energy technology, and companies who grow the skilled labor base in our state by opening doors for women to enter skilled trades.
When re-elected she will pass legislation to help grow what already works in our state like aerospace, film & television production, tourism, and green energy. She will be a champion for innovative job programs to strengthen our economy, support small businesses, and bring new industries to New Mexico.
Pamelya Herndon's mother was an elementary school teacher. She has always supported educators. That is why she voted for $50,000 minimum pay for New Mexico teachers — a 20% average pay raise. This brings New Mexico in line with the national average and ahead of surrounding states.
Along with competitive compensation, Pamelya voted to increase teacher retention and training, strengthen teacher recruitment from our communities, and provide services
that students need.
One such service aimed at students is the effort she is leading to open mental health and wellness centers in New Mexico schools to help young people deal with anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges.
When Pamelya is re-elected she is deeply committed to introducing new laws that safeguard the right of New Mexican families to pursue in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Reproductive freedom is not just about the right to choose whether or when to have children, but also about the right to access medical treatments that allow families to grow. In the wake of recent federal and state-level attacks on reproductive rights, it is imperative that we act to protect IVF and ensure that hopeful parents have the legal backing they need to access these life-changing services.
IVF is a medical miracle for many families facing infertility. Unfortunately, it has become a target of political attacks that are part of a broader effort to curtail reproductive rights. Pamelya's upcoming legislation will create clear protections for the use of IVF in New Mexico, ensuring that families can pursue these treatments without fear of legal interference or additional burdensome regulations.
Every family’s path to parenthood is unique, and government overreach has no place in those deeply personal decisions. New Mexicans deserve the freedom to choose the family-building options that work best for them.
